Way to go, Japan!

If there are few bright spots to this year’s Academy Awards, one of them is undoubtedly Japanese film Departures (Okuribito, おくりびと) winning for Best Foreign Language Film. Kudos to director Yojiro Takita for getting some much-deserved recognition!

Check out the English subtitled trailer here.

Edit: For those wanting to see Departures, it makes its DVD debut on March 18th in Japan (that means it’s Region 2, so make sure you’re able to play it on your DVD player). Unfortunately, for those who do not understand Japanese, this version does not contain English subtitles. However, wait patiently and the Region-Free Hong Kong release will undoubtedly show up, and with English subs. No doubt that will become available long before it gets a proper release here in the States.
